Design studio on The Japanese School Project – Phase 1

Winter 1982

The students in the design studio were given an eight-page hand-out titled “Questions to be answered in order to do a great project” and were asked to study it and provide answers. The main topics were: I. Questions with Regard to the Global Structure; II. Questions with Regard to Major Functional Centers; III. Questions with Regard to Patterns; IV. Questions with Regard to the Site. The students were asked to prepare a set of patters which will describe the whole nature of the school, as well as the real life that will happen in the school. One of the fundamental requirements was that the patterns will lead to the actual creation of entities that will be forming the whole school when put together. Clear character and name for each entity was highlighted. .
