Building Process Area of Emphasis: Advanced Theory of Order – Urban Spaces Viewed as Positive Spaces
Fall 1995The seminar focused on the problems to be resolved in developing a new type of urban master plan, which could replace the predominant ways of dealing with master plans and forms of urban design. Emphasis was given on ways of defining complex spatial structures in a city, in a way that is flexible and avoids over-specifying design; the question was to find ways capable of making precise specifications of the key spatial structures that are required in urban space. Each student was asked to write a paper proposing a solution to this problem and was expected to give a reasoned analysis of the problem and methods.
