Theory III: On Urban Design

Spring 1979

The Spring 1979 theory studio course was complementary to the design studio on the San Francisco Waterfront experimental project. Its focus was on the development, elaboration and testing of a series of theoretical assumptions on the process of urban growth, and the formulation of a set of rules used as guiding principles in the simulation project. The emerging theory, supported by the experimental project, was subsequently published in the book “A New Theory of Urban Design”.
