Christopher Alexander – The Search for a New Paradigm in Architecture
01/01/1983Dr. Stephen Grawbow, Director of the Architecture Program at the University of Kansas, had been closely associated with Alexander and, in full collaboration with him, has produced a biographical and philosophical study, which examines the development of Alexander’s ideas, from his early studies in mathematics and architecture at Cambridge, England, until 1983. Grabow belives that Christopher Alexander has emerged, through his practical experimental work and a series of stimulating books, as one of the most important architectural thinkers of our time.
This book by Grabow will be essential reading for all who wish to understand the growth of Alexander’s thought, the stages through which he has passed, the ideas that he still accepts and the positions from which he is now moving on: Alexander is essentially a creative thinker, not the advocate of a finite doctrine. The book includes long transcriptions of conversations with Christopher Alexander and is profusely illustrated.
