Fort Mason Bench: Ornamental Terrazzo Panels – Photographs

Construction Process

Six photographs illustrating some steps of the process of making the terrazzo ornaments at the side and back walls of the bench.

Photograph:

  • 1) The styrofoam pieces, forming the pattern of the decorative strip at the back of the bench, have been glued on the concrete
  • 2) Closer view of the previous image
  • 3) Styrofoam fillers being glued on the concrete side surface
  • 4) The fillers have formed the decorative pattern of the bench stepped side; protective tape is applied along the edges
  • 5) Green marble dust paste is being troweled to fill the formed diagonal squares
  • 6) Grinding the surface to remove all excess of the green marble paste
