27/01/1976
Federation Nationale du Batiment, Paris, France
Conference, Professional Event

Christopher Alexander gave a speech about patterns and pattern languages, the active involvement of users in shaping the places they live and use daily, the ways of helping people in the community to use the pattern language and take responsibilities for design and construction. He referred to the projects that he and C.E.S. had completed by 1976, like Peru, Modesto clinic, Oregon University, Etna street cottage, Rebuilding Berkeley, the Mexicali project, under construction at that time, and the Paris apartments, a simulation of a project that he hoped to build in Paris.
