La Jolla Village and Waterfront – Design Charrette and Community Workshop
24/06/1988 to 26/06/1988One of five participants in the weekend community workshop “La Jolla Village and Waterfront – Workshop & Design Charette,” to explore new possibilities for conservation and development process, which would preserve and enhance the physical beauty of the city, threated by new construction. The focus was on design solutions which emphasized appropriateness of scale and the connection of the city to the ocean.
Christopher Alexander and Artemis Anninou participated with the “Terraced Plaza” proposal, “a grand gesture, a strong connection between the village and the ocean, which would gain the enthusiasm of the people and therefore make it easier to enact the subsequent planning steps required to restore the pedestrian character of La Jolla”. His propposal was based on solving the problem of traffic by closing the bottom of a street and creating a Center of the town.
