Unfolding of a Community from Generative Code: The Riverside Community of Strood

02/12/2005
Project Report

42-page draft on the generative process for Strood Housing, part of the United Kingdom governmental policy to rebuilt massive amounts of housing. The proposal was based a new methodology that builds on the qualitative evaluations of users, and generates a design that “unfolds” throughout the process of design and construction. It used a kind of “code” based upon the sequence of steps taken by its participants, in “open source” fashion to generate adaptive forms. There is also a 36-page draft, Version 18, dated Oct. 28, 2005.
