Architectural Design, Sketches, Layout Process

The Stanislaus County Community Mental Health Center project, under construction in 1972, was used as example for demonstrating the layout process for a public building. Ten sketches depict the sequential steps of the building layout process, using patterns. The first sketch presents the group of people involved in the design, while the remaining illustrate in sequential order the patterns used — Human Scale of Public Buildings, Entrance Location, Main Street, Circulation Realms, Social Areas at the Heart of Therapy, Family of Entrances, Convex Open Space, South Facing Open Space and Short Corridors. .
