The Julian Street Inn – Shelter for the Homeless: Construction experiments for testing the prefabrication of wall-segment tile panels and lifting them in place – Photographs of experimental mock-up depicting construction process

Construction Experiment & Mock-up, Construction Process

Four photographs of a full scale test tiled wall panel, the size and shape of an exterior wall segment with a window opening. They depict the first stage of its prefabrication procedure, during which tiles are laid out in relation to the openings and the column edges; a major decision to be made was the distance of the tile from opening and wall edges. 4,000 tiles were painted and fired in the C.E.S. Martinez workshop.
